The Story
behind the song...
"Louisiana Rain" was the first song I wrote after a brief stay in jail at the end of 2014. Several years of bad decisions, excessive alcohol and drug use, a horrible relationship breakup, and eventually a fight with a man I thought was a friend landed me in jail. I was broken. I was broken beyond what I thought was repairable. When I was finally able to travel, I went down to Louisiana to play music for a few days. I'd never been before. I've been to 45 US states and 22 countries around the world, but I've never seen anything as lush and green as Southern Louisiana.
2015 was a year of flooding. The rivers were way above their banks. Bridges were washed out. Everything was soggy and muddy. And the entire time I was in Louisiana, it never stopped raining. People there were so down and gloomy. Everybody was sick of the rain except to me. That rain felt like a spiritual shower to me, beginning to wash away the filth of the things I had done and the places I had been in my life over the recent years. The last day I was there, I sat in the grass and got soaked to the bone. I didn't have a guitar or a piece of paper or anything like that. I just wrote this song in my head and sang it as I let the rain wash over me. It's a very special song to me. And it has taken me a long time to record it and release it so everyone could share it. I hope you'll enjoy it and find meaning in the way I always have. I love you all, and thank you so much for listening to this music.
Your friend,
